Coordinator's Column, May 2008
"Sometimes this is the only time of the year I see them…"

What a great time it was.  I know that I say that every year after SK102, but every year it gets a little better.  This year, Brian Blankinship and Laura Butterbaugh signed up 100 students and 31 instructors for a weekend of camping, training and paddling.  Of course not quite that many showed up.  The weather for Saturday and Sunday was not predicted... {read more}

NON CPA Event- Chesapeake Light Craft Okumefest - safety boaters
Led by 301-249-4895.
Chesapeake Light Craft's kayak demo day. CPAer's: Chesapeake Light Craft is holding their Okoumestock paddling demo day on May 10. As in the past, they are asking CPA to provide some safety boaters for the event on SATURDAY. Safety boating is pretty easy work - keep everyone in the area of water we're supposed to be using, and do the very occassional assisted rescue when someone tests the limits of stability of the boats. Safety boaters get some perks too: "We'll have usual perks for your crew - free lunch, free dinner (outside on the grill this year) if they'd like to hang around, and some thank you gifts." Also, Nick Schade, kayak designer, will be there this year with some of his beautiful boats. Let me know as soon as possible if you are interested. Here is this year's Okoumefest page: http://www.clcboats.com/shop/new/okoumefest2008/ Greg Welker
