PINE BARRENS KAYAK AND CAMPING WEEKEND
Join us for an overnight paddle trip through the Pine Barrens of New Jersey from Friday night to Sunday afternoon. The Pine Barrens are a wilderness in the midst of one of the most urbanized areas in the country. Covering almost one-quarter of New Jersey, it has pines, sandy soil, twisting, narrow rivers that flow eventually to the Atlantic, and almost no people! It is a special paddling destination that is suitable for all skill levels. Shorter kayaks are recommended since the river has many tight twists and turns. We will be paddling, with the current, on the Mullica River both days for a total of about 18 miles. You will enjoy seeing vegetation that is unique to only the Pine Barrens. Car Camping will be at Bodine Field Wharton State Forrest near Chatsworth, NJ. A primitive campground with picnic tables, fire ring, and pit toilets. There will be ample room for car parking and the campground has a beach for storing our kayaks. Meals will be on your own with an option of going into Hammonton to a nice Italian resturant. Cost will be $5-6 dollars per person (new rates have not been published). Date is May 3-5, Friday to Sunday afternoon.
