To coordinate the group RSVPS to use the pool – please sign up through our sister Middle-Peninsula Paddlers Meetup:
Required: BOATS MUST BE TOTALLY CLEAN. Boats and gear must be clear of leaves, mud, grass, etc. You must take a shower before getting into the pool. CPA and YMCA waivers will be collected at the pool session please fill out in advance.
If you have any questions – please contact Williamsburg, VA pool coordinator-
This year our available pool space are 4 lanes, so we will be able to accommodate up to 8 kayaks in the water at a time. Dianne Campbell will be there as a representative of the Chesapeake Paddlers Association(CPA) that provides the insurance certificate to allow us to use the pool (Thanks CPA).
The cost for an individual pool sessions at $20/session – (thank you, R.F. Wilkinson Y!). There is no intention to make money for using the pool sessions.
The pool rental is $120.00 per session so the break even point is to have six kayakers show up but if there are less than six that show up the extra money from well attended sessions can be used to make up the difference. I plan to donate any monies left over to the YMCA to help maintain a good relationship.
How it works:
Kayakers’ entrance to the pool is on the front far left side of the building. Before entering the pool area, all kayaks and associated gear — paddles, rescue equipment, PFD’s, etc. must be scrupulously clean. There will be a gear washing station setup just outside the entrance. All participants are expected to clean their equipment thoroughly before entering the pool area. It is a good idea to ask someone else(second set of eyes) to check your kayak for cleanliness. All road grime, mud, slime, sticks, leaves, acorns, food wrappers, etc. MUST be removed. After signing in, participants must shower fully suited up in their paddling clothing and PFD. There is easy access to the men’s and women’s showers from the main pool area. After cleaning kayaks and gear, signing in , and showering, it’s time to get in the pool!
The YMCA requires that you read and sign one waiver the first time you attend for the 2018 season.
The CPA requires that you read and sign one waiver the first time you attend the 2018/19 Winter-Spring Season.
Payment is required at the time of your reservation by stating you will have a check in the mail within 24 hours I will give you a reasonable amount of time for the check to arrive and let you know via meetup mail or comment that it has been received. – Make out checks to Dianne Campbell:
265 Dutchmans Rd
Port Haywood VA 23138
You can RSVP more than one spot at a time but this year there will be no discount for doing so but you can make sure you have all the spots you want and make the payment process easier.
Refunds will only be given if the session is cancelled for any any reason, so be sure to check your schedule and other commitments before signing up and paying for sessions. If you have signed up and payed for a session that you are unable to attend, you are encouraged to contact other paddlers on the wait list for that session and work out an exchange between yourselves and Post a comment that you have substituted yourself with the person’s name of who is taking your place. This seemed to work well last year, so we’ll keep that going this year.
The primary purpose of these pool sessions is to provide a resource for kayakers in the Middle Peninsula, Hampton Roads, and Richmond areas to practice and increase their paddling skills in a warm, safe, and supportive environment. It is made possible by volunteers — no one is paid or makes a profit from the pool sessions fees.
If you know someone that can coach you feel free to invite them to the pool but there can only be one kayak associated with you and your coach at one time unless the coach RSVP’d and paid also.
Signing up: Pool sessions are also posted on the Virginia Paddlers Meetup website. If you are a member of both groups, please sign up through either Meetup — but NOT both. I prefer that you sign up on Thanks!
