Thanks, it's always good to hear when someone likes my paddles... If things go as planned one of our SOF Black Pearls will be coming with us. Still waiting for the paint to dry...!

If you've been wanting to see what all the fuss is about over the Greenland-style paddle or tried one at the recent SK102 and want to try again, this is a great opportunity as I'll be bringing up about a dozen demo paddles of different sizes for people to play with and discover what works for them.

The plans are to start off with a dry land intro going over the minor differences in technique and answer questions you may have, then to hit the water where it'll all quickly begin to make sense. Most who try the skinny-stick wish they had discovered this paddle a long, long time ago...

Afterwards I'll be available to answer questions about making your own so feel free to bring along any paddles you've started or even finished but have doubts about for tips etc.

Come join us if you can whether you are new to the greenland paddle or a long time skinny-sticker. My wife and I are always looking forward to paddling new places with new friends...

Two parks in Anne Arundel County offer great spots to watch the arrival and departure of the Tall Ships for the Sailabration celebration in Baltimore Harbor. The ships arrive Wednesday June 13th and depart Tuesday June 19th.

You can watch the ships from Fort Smallwood Park and Downs Park. Each park has a cartop boat launchsite. You need wheels for Downs Park.

The Events forum is what I've seen folks use (myself included) to announce peer paddles. Since there are not that many non-peer events, IMO, using the Events forum for peer paddle stuff might be OK. I have not seen too many of these announcements either, so they would not "pollute" the Events forum, likely.

Hope that you may have seen the 2012 invitation & call for help from the new 2012 Columbia Triathlon Kayaker Coordinator. The time line needs our kayakers to arrive around 5:45 am.
We will use the SAME PARK ACCESS PATHWAY directly to our kayak shore launch at Centennial Lake.

Looking forward to see ya all come out super early this coming Sunday May 20 !
We can always use new or returning kayaker swim support volunteers ! If you may know of any other kayakers who may able to help ! We will be finished before noon - plenty of time for the rest of your day.

We do know that most of the kayakers will patrol from outside the course but we will place a few on the interior of the course as well. Your main function is to provide directional assistance and to signal for any swimmer that may need assistance. Swimmers can hold onto your kayak but you should not propel them forward on the course. We do have for this year besides the Howard County Fire/Rescue boats, Triton Water Rescue life guards who will also patrol and will attend to anyone needing medical assistance. We will have radio communication between the rescue boats, Triton swimmers, kayakers, and shore personnel. Kayakers will communicate through me on the VHF radios provided and I will in turn communicate with rescue boats and Triton Water Group. The orange signal flags provided will be for those kayakers without radios to alert rescue personnel for assistance."

This is great coverage for the swimmers and the support kayakers-so please bring along your radio - and they will also supply additional radios for kayakers' use.

Let's please plan to arrive betwen 5:45- 6 am - and you will be proably be off the water well before 10 am.
This a protected lake and a short swim - it's great place to try out a swim support event ahead of the longer & more exposed swims which do need more experience & practice.
